The Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal and covers an area of 5,000Km2. With 200 Km of Atlantic Ocean coastline, it receives more sun than any other part of main land Europe and has a climate similar to the Mediterranean. The population is close to 400,000 inhabitants of all nationalities, distributed through 16 municipalities and settled mostly on the coastline.

Today, the Algarve is a favourite holiday destination, being famous for its beautiful beaches, amazing countryside, vibrant nightlife, splendid golf courses, excellent hostelries, culture and popular customs, and the friendly charm and welcome of its people. The wonderful climate, warm and sunny all year round, gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of sport, cultural and leisure activities

The lively fishing town of Albufeira could not be better located placed perfectly and centrally, within easy reach of Faro (airport), the high mountains of Monchique, the historic castle town of Silves with its moorish gardens or the market town of Loule and not forgetting the rugged coastal areas around Sagres the end of main land Europe.

Albufeira, Portugal's most popular resort, has been described as the “Tourist Capital” of the Algarve, spreading from the old town both east and west along the coast, its sandy coves and golden beaches drawing an assorted crowd from teenagers to retired couples, also accommodating many families with young children.

Everyone finds something to enjoy in this sprawling, low-rise holiday Mecca, which retains its old world charm in narrow alleyways behind the new hip and happening, Rue Candido dos Reis (the bar street) which at night is a must. The “Strip”, as it is referred to locally, in the east of the town, runs from the Montechoro Hotel down to the Praia da Oura, lined with dozens of cafes, restaurants and bars that keep pumping from breakfast time to the small hours.

In contrast, the old town of Albufeira has a special charm all of its own which cannot be found anywhere else in the Algarve with its sleepy cobbled side streets and alleyways that criss cross the town, many of them converging in the main square which at night comes alive with the throng of people, music, lights, sounds and aromas of the many restaurants and bars. During the day when its a little less busy it will lead down to the fisherman’s beach where you can still see the days catch being landed ready for market or just sun bathe on the golden beach

On the long stretch of beach below the central square, accessed through a tunnel, craggy fishermen mend their nets unperturbed by the sunbathers around them. While the chief attraction of Albufeira is the many enchanting beaches, most protected by ochre-tinted cliffs, there are some interesting sightseeing possibilities too. Those who venture inland will find a tranquil green countryside to explore, redolent with almond, fig, orange and pine trees, where villages stand timelessly in the sun.

Lots of flights available from UK and Ireland to Faro. The earlier you book, the cheaper the flight!

The apartment directly overlooks the swimming pool.
