New to Portugal? Monchique is a perfect introduction. Enjoy "Authentic Portugal" at its best, with some intriguing surprises around every corner.
Monchique is nestled in a valley between the only two mountains in the Algarve, Foia and Picota. Established by the Romans, who built, with granite, terraces on the rich fertile land to grow produce, the Villa sits on these same terraces today. Corga das Ervilhas - Terraces of Peas! Our terraces still produce oranges, tangerines, lemons, plums, peaches, figs, sharon fruit, grapes, olives, of which our guests are welcome to eat.
There are level walks, steep walks, walks to the top of Foia and walks to the cafes in town. Bird watching is very popular as we are on a major migratory route. Cork oak forests abound and offer welcome shade from the hot summer sun, and after all that exercise kick off your shoes and cool off in the infinity pool. Wind down with a glass of local wine or ice cold beer or test your culinary skills on the BBQ. Please read more about "The Authentic Algarve"
Serra de Monchique - guaranteed to capture your heart.
From the villa there are many attractions within a short drive. By the way 83% of the total land area of the Serra da Monchique is a Declared Natural Reserve. The peaks and contour roads of Foia and Picota afford 360 degree panoramic views, don't forget your camera! For the more adventurous, take some of the side roads and visit deserted watermills or the ghost village of Barbelote with its stunning cascade. The mountains here are quite spectacular and not to be missed ideal for the biker, hiker or just a casual stroll. You can rent bikes, they will even deliver and collect them from the villa.
Local Health Spa and Villa Vida Nova Guests
The famous village of Caldas de Monchique with its health spa is only 10 minutes drive away. Here you can take in the famous Monchique spring waters and enjoy being pampered in the health salon at Hotel Termas de Monchique. On summer evenings you can listen to local live music whilst dining in the Caldas de Monchique square at Restaurant 1692. ( Villa Vida Nova guests have Exclusive guest status at Termas de Monchique).

Take a boat trip from Portimao or Lagos to watch the dolphins in their natural habitat.
Shopping in Nearby Portimao
Portimao has now surpassed Faro to become the shopping mecca of the Algarve and is just 20 minutes drive from Monchique. Boasting two large shopping malls, Aqua Portimao is situated just 20 minutes drive from Monchique, on three floors with 117 shops, restaurants and a hypermarket, again parking is free. First time to Portugal and it was jolly good. The owners provided everything we needed and more including cot and high chair, everything in the villa is to a very high standard of good quality and sparkling clean. The pool was warm so we swam almost every day and had a bbq on a few days. I would recommend this villa to any one wanting upmarket accommodation at very reasonable prices. We plan to return in the not too distant future.

Stayed here a week and sorry to have to go home. Cannot fault this villa and we have stayed in many far more expensive places. Extremely good value. Superbly appointed, clean and comfortable. The owners have done a great job in creating this lovely holiday home. A very peaceful, safe, private and sunny location with breathtaking views of the coast. Pool was warmer than I expected for October. The villa is everything if not more than what the website portrays. We have booked again for 2018, thank you Nigel

An excellent villa and highly recommended! We had a lovely week at Villa Vida Nova in boiling unseasonably high temperatures, 37-39 degrees which was unexpected! The villa is very comfortable, well equipped, has very good cooking facilities and first class comfortable beds. In the high temperatures the villa's air conditioning was very welcome. We visited the west coast, Arrifana has an excellent cliff top restaurant and the local restaurants O Luar Foia and Jardim das Oliveiras provided splendid meals. Our large car negotiated the bend down to the villa ok, a 3 point turn to get round, care needed. Overall an excellent villa and highly recommended.

We stayed at Villa Nova in June with our friends and had the most wonderful time. The villa is like a home from home and equipped with all you need and is spotlessly clean. All the tips from Nigel on where to go to dine are excellent as well as local places of interest. We loved star gazing by the pool at night with a glass of wine or two! Our only disappointment was that we were only there for a week.
Ilona and Richard Bond , 04 Aug 2017 UK.
Awe inspiring location! We had an absolutely wonderful time at this beautiful villa in an awe inspiring location! Monchique is a real 'hidden gem'.
Nigel could not have been more helpful in booking and the advice to make the most out of our time on arrival in the helpful 'guides' he's written really made the holiday!
Would not hesitate to recommend or book again!
